BOARD MEMBER

Javier (he/him) is a Puerto Rican artist, writer, and naturalist with more than fifteen years of experience working in communications to support nonprofits and grassroots efforts. He earned his first master’s degree in architecture from the University of Puerto Rico before completing a second one in environmental management from the Yale School of the Environment in 2019. There, he was an active member of the Environmental Justice at Yale student interest group while participating in actions and events organized by Fossil Free Yale and the Yale Endowment Justice Coalition.

Javier combines his design background with skills from ecosystem conservation and human ecology into a practice located somewhere between land management and environmental communications. He thrives at the intersection and complexities between humans and nature, finding himself at home in all efforts to restore just and meaningful relationships amongst the land and its stewards. He is currently based in Oakland, where he is Director of Strategic Storytelling at Minnow, a nonprofit seeking land justice for farmers of color and indigenous communities in California.
